MythBusters’ Adam Savage’s favorite tools

Digital multimeters

MythBusters host Adam Savage shared his favorite electronics tools during an August 18th Tool Tip video series, a best budget multimeter review. To our delight, he recommended two Fluke multimeters, stating “something about the yellow of a Fluke meter just makes me super happy.”

Inside Adam Savage’s Cave

Since he’s “not an electronics guy,” Savage explained that he relies on expert guidance from friends and colleagues for the electrical work he’s done over the years. He showed off his first multimeter, a Fluke 77, which is still in great working condition, even after 30 years of use. In fact, he says that he’s only changed the batteries four times over its lifespan. As Savage pointed out, Fluke is still making multimeters. The 77 meter he shows off has since been updated to the 77 IV Digital Multimeter.

As Savage also mentions in the video, the original 77 meter wasn’t the most budget-friendly option. The best budget multimeter for electronics inside Adam Savage’s cave is a Fluke 101 (since updated to the Fluke 107 Palm-sized multimeter), which, according to Savage, he used on the set of MythBusters. He even shows off the paint covering the Fluke logo which they hid during filming.

Best tools to have

Two the best, updated, all-around multimeters Fluke has to offer are the Fluke 115 Field Technician’s Digital Multimeter and the 117 Electrician’s Multimeter. Both are great workshop tools to have around when working on electronics.
