Product overview: Fluke T5-1000 Voltage, Continuity and Current Tester

Measure current up to 100 A without breaking the circuit with OpenJaw™ design. The T5-1000 Electrical Tester is a versatile troubleshooting tool to carry to every job site. Use it to check voltage, continuity, and current–all with one compact tool.

How to use the T5-1000

Just select volts, ohms, or current and the tester does the rest. The electrical tester auto-selects between AC and DC voltage up to 1000 V.

Plus, the OpenJaw™ design allows for fast and easy current measurements without needing to make metallic contact, just slide a wire into the open fork. The continuity beeper offers a quick go/no-go tests, resistance measurements to 1000 Ω.

The electrical tester comes with detachable Slim Reach probe tips so you can easily work in tight spaces. Or hand free work when you use the test lead holder to make the meter an “extended handle” for the probe.

Key safety features

An integrated protection circuit allows the tester to stay connected to a voltage source longer than a solenoid tester. The T5-1000 Electrical Tester also boasts:

A CAT III 1000V, CAT IV 600 V rating

Withstands a 10 ft. (3 m) drop.

The T5-1000 has and Auto-off mode to conserve battery life. The unit fits into an optional holster that attaches to a belt and neatly stows test leads.

Fluke T5-1000 vs T6-1000

The T5-1000 uses the OpenJaw™ design to measure current without metallic contact, just slide the wire in the open fork and the T5 will do the rest. It also measures voltage and continuity with the test leads. The T6-1000 (https://www.fluke.com/en-us/product/electrical-testing/basic-testers/fluke-t6-1000) is designed to use FieldSense™ technology to display both current and voltage simultaneously.

“This is a very good meter and I trust my life with it almost every day” - Kevin

Will the T5-1000 catch/hold the starting amps draw on a AC compressor during starting?

Asked by: Blez
No, the Fluke T5-1000 Voltage, Continuity and Current Tester does not have an Inrush Current function that would capture and Hold the starting current of a compressor. You need a Clampmeter with Inrush function such as the Fluke-374FC, Fluke-375FC or Fluke-376FC.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tester. Seems durable and reliable. You really get what you pay for when it comes to testers. Much more reliable and robust than my CE Multimeter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fluke is #1 Excellent little meters. They fit in your back pocket and can take several different measurements.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fluke leads pull apart after being stored in holde The shipment was quick however, after using the Voltage tester for about a month. I do not like the way the electrodes slip off the leads when pulled out of their holders. I solved the problem by wrapping with electrical tape but I think you need to fix this- very cheap and definitely not Fluke quality My previous T5-1000 never had this problem because the leads were solidly attached to the testing electrodes

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not terribly happy I've had the t5 for close to 20 yrs. I do use it but not every day, perhaps once a month or so. It has not held up as its seen light duty use since purchase. Perhaps I expected too much for the $130 I paid for it. Presently it will not do continuety anymore. I cleaned the contact pads in the multi wheel and it worked for a while but back to not working. I called Fluke service and was told they do not service the t5. Go figure, purchase another one is their solution.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Probably Refurbished Packaging was opened and the meter looked like it had been used. It had had black residue in the continuity opening. Probably from cable jacketing. All it’s functions work properly so far. A little disappointed knowing it’s probably refurbished though and I chose to purchase it directly through fluke instead of Amazon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trusted product As an apprentice journeyman electricians always carried the fluke brand and I didn't know why, but I soon learned that it is because the fluke brand is simply the best there is. I love my fluke T5-1000, it is a very reliable tester and something that every electrician should carry.
