Find, repair, validate, and report electrical issues quickly
Locate the problem immediately
Thermal imaging multimeters are a first-line troubleshooting tool for electrical equipment that can check hot spots on high-voltage equipment and transformers, and detect heating of fuses, wires, insulators, connectors, splices and switches. Scanning with the 279 FC's thermal imager reveals many electrical issues rapidly and from a safe distance. By combining two tools into one, the thermal multimeter lightens the load and increases productivity.Expanded functionality
Compatible with iFlex® (a flexible current clamp) to expand your measurement capabilities and get into tight, hard to reach spaces for current measurement (up to 2500 A AC). The large full-color LCD screen makes for easier and clearer viewing of images and readings. The 10 hour+ rechargeable battery keeps you going all day long under normal conditions. With built-in Fluke Connect®, transmit results wirelessly to a smartphone and save time on reporting to validate work is complete. Troubleshoot better by instantly trending and monitoring measurements live on your smartphone screen. Create and email reports right from the field.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fast AL from Excellent IR function for a built-in feature I've had the Fluke 279FC for about 2 full years now and have to say for the IR function being an added feature on a DMM the IR resolution and overall performance is excellent. I can use this tool to pinpoint mechanical issues just as well as narrowing down power connection "hot spots". I've recommended to my manager to consider this meter to be the standard-issue DMM for industrial maintenance techs. The return-on-investment is fast!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mark 63 from Battery Life I purchased this a year ago and i do not use it very often but every time i go to use it the battery is dead and it takes a long time to charge it. i even charged it and left it out of the meter and it still discharges completely. it would be a great meter if the battery was better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Spider from Battery was bad out of the box Bought a brand new 279 FC meter (big bucks) and the battery, which was supposed to have shipped with a 30% charge per the manual was dead out of the box. Tried charging it for several hours, never got above one blinking green light out of 5. Replacements cost $170 each. For what these guys charge for a meter, you'd think they would invest SOME time in the battery design. Been buying Fluke for going on 30 years, maybe it's time for a change. Sad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JedL from Expensive. IR display nice. Flawed basic functions IR view seems to work fine, but horizontal lines mar the display.
AC loop does not work.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Fluke 279 Thermal Meter from Good product, bad service Received my multimeter and had a bad tl175. It took me 2 calls and an email to get the replacements so I could use my alligator clamps. It took me 2 weeks to receive these when they were needed more immediately. The device itself is great and handled everything I needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Trickie Dickie from Much Better than expected This is a truly awesome instrument. Little skeptical about the built-in IR temp display. Turns out, it is super clear and surprisingly handy and has temp readout. Comes with a handy current loop which is a real step up from current clamps. Exceeded my expectations, but then again Fluke products always do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Big Dave from Better Than Expeted After comparing the specs on the Fluke 279 and Flir DM284 I bought the Flir because the image quality was 2X better. After receiving the Flir I was disapointed with the image quality. I bought the Fluke. After getting it i compared the image quality of both side by side and the Fluke kills the Flir. The Flir's picture is grainy and not sharp. It has a lot of noise. The Fluke is clear, little noise and if you didn't know ou would think the Fluke had 2X the resolution. The Flir does have some nice MM functions but the Fluke has all you need. Also the Flir has a battery that you need to unscrew 4 bolts to change the battery.
